I am Wikus Swanepoel, the newly-appointed tumuaki at Maidstone Intermediate.
Education has been a major part of my life. It has taken me to various countries and cultures. I came to New Zealand twenty years ago and fell in love not only with the country but also the middle school concept. As a curious learner I am looking forward to the journey of learning with the akonga, staff and community of Te Kura ō Hinepōhatu
My passion in teaching is to create opportunities to make learning authentic, fun and Interactive. I firmly believe that everybody has the right to achieve and it is my job to create those possibilities and celebrate the success of our learners.
When I am not at school I love hiking, yoga, art movies and traveling. My achilles heel is that I cannot be effective without my first coffee in the morning.
I can’t help but feel immensely proud to be leading this amazing organisation. It’s a privilege and a pleasure to work in such a progressive and dynamic school.
I am incredibly proud of our team at MIS. We have an amazing group of talented teachers who provide the best possible learning opportunities for our children. Our teachers are supported by a wonderful group of teacher aides and support staff who help to create an engaging learning environment at our school. We have a very active Board of Trustees and a leadership team who are passionate about enhancing the learning experiences of every child at Maidstone Intermediate.
“It’s not if you are smart but how you are smart”. At MIS we will make it our job to let that smartness shine!
