Nau mai, haere mai! Haere mai ke Te Kura ō Hinepōhatu

Welcome to Maidstone Intermediate School

Thank you for choosing to become part of the Maidstone whānau. I trust your experience will be one filled with adventure and authentic ako (learning).

At our kura, we believe each ākonga (student) can achieve success. ‘It is not if you are bright; it is how you are bright’. It is a place where everybody should feel they belong, as we are all passionate about meeting our young adolescents' specific needs and supporting their success.

Our aim is to grow great people by working in partnership with whānau, preparing our young people for living in the 21st century, and to be positive, contributing members of society.

Our prospectus provides you with a brief insight into what Maidstone Intermediate School offers our ākonga.

If you would like to know more about us, please contact us to make an appointment.

Class Learning

Image

The Maidstone Curriculum fosters independent learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving, thereby preparing ākonga for the academic and social challenges of secondary school. It also encourages the development of key competencies such as managing self, relating to others, and participating and contributing, alongside a robust understanding of New Zealand's bicultural heritage, which incorporates Te Reo Māori (the Māori language) and tikanga (Māori customs and protocols) into learning experiences.

At Maidstone, our learning is directly connected to our kura values: Manaakitanga, Kaitiakitanga, and Whanaungatanga. Our focus is on the "emerging adolescent"—ākonga who are undergoing significant physical, emotional, and cognitive changes. While our classroom learning is predominantly inquiry-based, we ensure a strong emphasis on strengthening foundational literacy (reading and writing) and numeracy (mathematics) skills.

E-Learning - preparing for the 21st Century

We are a BYOC (Bring Your Own Chromebook) kura, and E-Learning is an integral part in our learning. Our Digital Curriculum provides authentic learning experiences, and supports higher-order and collaborative learning.

Our e-learning initiatives are designed to incorporate learning about artificial intelligence and its integration into our daily lives.
